So I got engaged...
by frogonmytoe in...to my boyfriend, we're going to have one of those weddings ('gay' weddings to the straights).. although my jw family know i'm gay, and not going to meetings, only one of my sisters has sussed the situation.
but i think after 3 years it's about time i told them.
especially if sometime in the future i'll turn up with a (gay) wedding ring.

YOU ARE DOING A GOOD JOB!
by abiather ini am still a jw.
i cant give any more details than this because of my family members who are devout jws.
i cherish a larger picture in my heart without anybody knowing ittrue worship means love and compassion, (luke 10:25-37) not belonging to any organization or having a set of belief system!

Welcome!
I agree - we could all do a better job of keeping it collegial, both between ourselves and toward those who still adhere to the JW dogma. As Flipper said, many of us (myself definitely included) are still dealing with anger, sadness and loss. It's hard to work past that in posts, and maybe it's not even genuine to put it aside. But I think we need to do a better job of putting it in its place.
Anyway: Again, welcome. I'm glad you're here.

The reason behind why the ex-JW community can never match Jehovah's Witnesses' success.
by Stand for Pure Worship inan average of five kingdom halls being constructed daily, almost 8 million brothers and sisters, dissemination of bible literature in 595 languages, 111,795 congregations worldwide, distribution of 179 million bibles available in 116 languages, 239 countries where jehovah's witnesses have a presence, etc.. need i go on?.
on the other hand........... crisis of conscience, freeminds, the awaa, jw.net, ummmmmm........hmmm........idk six screens or something?

You folks like to twist people's words to suit your own agendas.
My agenda here, if I have one, is to bear personal witness to what I endured and continue to endure. If that's offended you, I apologize.

It's really not an excuse, there are many new ones that come here all the time, that at least have the humility and decency to not preach to us about the WT.
Fair point, but those people are probably much farther along in deprogramming. It took quite a few shocks to my system to wipe the smugness off my face.

If you have grievances, why come here, with such arrogance, why not ask questions instead of dogging those that have chosen to leave for probably some of same issues you have with Watchtower?
In fairness to him, my attitude would have been the same way 25 years ago. It's amazing what you're insensible to when you're convinced you have the truth.
I would add that my older brother, who I understand is an elder (we haven't spoken in 23 years, since I was shunned) is probably the most brilliant person I know. Intelligence does not equal ability to escape the trappings of the Organization.

Why are we feeding the troll people?!
Either SFPW is genuine and is a 'faithful' witness (who has ignored the counsel about apostate sites and doubts his god's ability to deal with us without his (SPFW's) help)
OR they are mischief-making and/or attention seeking. Either way, we should probably just ignore them.
I disagree. I think the dialogue is vitally important for lurkers and fence-sitters to read. We won't and shouldn't seek to 'win' arguments here, but if this conversation gives any illumination to passersby about the true state of decay of the JW Organization (and the slavish, unthinking devotion of its adherents) then words here are well spent.

To be clear, DFing would only happen after the elders attempted to reason with the errant one to no avail, and the individual would continue to express divisive thoughts throughout the Christian congregation.
Incorrect. I was removed without a single word from the elders and without expressing my thoughts to a single member of the congregation. Plenty of others have been convicted in absentia or for no other reason than refusing to accept the Governing Body as the Faithful and Discreet Slave.
I'm torn between being angry at you and pitying you. Might need to think on that.

Absolutely disingenous. People have and will continue to be DF'd for visiting apostate websites to do their own diligence with research. As you might yourself if your activity were ever discovered.
Regarding the Governing Body, eight men have just as much capacity to be wrong as one man. Numbers alone guarantee nothing. You also should have done your research before making such a statement: while the Scientologists are indeed led by one man (David Miscavige), the Mormons are led by several, including the Quorum of the Presidency of the Church and Quorum of the Twelve as governing bodies. Sounds like more 'checks and balances' to me than the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses.
And why would checks and balances be necessary at all if Jehovah's blessing was upon them as the Faithful and Discreet Slave? I can't imagine rancor or dissension would be possible if all of them were blessed with the same Holy Spirit.

Why not this:
I don't believe it's fair or even logical to compare Jehovah's Witnesses with groups like Scientology.
It is an entirely valid comparison. You assert that Scientology is a religion which "follow[s] the directives of other imperfect men". Are you implying that the Governing Body is comprised of perfect humans, or are you implying that they do not in fact lead the worldwide community of Jehovah's Witnesses?
Indeed, the WTBTS has invited comparison with other religions since its inception. Even the Roman Catholic Church was often vilified as the Whore of Babylon and a bastion of false teaching. Nevertheless, the JW Organization actively resists its own members doing due diligence research on their own faith from outside sources, and the punishment for such (if discovered) is disfellowshiping.
This is one reason among many that the JW Organization has been labeled a cult - active resistance to outside information, punishment and shunning is a trait the JW Organization shares absolutely with Scientology.
